Season 3 Episode 1

We're back after a summer on the beach with a whole new season - season 3!
Wayne's got a new cheap laptop to unleash a six-year old onto the information superhighway and a new cheap digital TV receiver too. Andy has been looking around the wacky world of Shodan and has a bunch of useful Android apps. We also waffle on about other stuff like US radio, how to watch the NHL in the UK, moan about printers and our unexplained ban from ***tube, an app to bring the wonderful sport of speedway into the 21st century, and more.

S02E03

Another dose of UER has arrived!

Among our selection of stuff this time are:

Old software still going strong: STSPLUS
tmux, the terminal multiplexer. It is hard to explain just by talking, it is likely easier understood if you see it in use so here is a Youtube video that goes through the important features and commands.
Handbrake: open source video transcoder
AutoGK: old school video encoder for Xvid and Divx conversion
BBC News: The $100,000 game cartridge
Andy's Happy Friday (annoyingly, this week's edition did not publish due to an ISP outage, it didn't seem right to send it on Saturday when everything resumed)
The "wicks" playlist on Spotify
Debian's net install
VMWare ESXi
Arch Linux

Enjoy!

S02E02 - Operating systems fun

Wayne's been on operating systems try-out overload with his swanky new old laptop and we get a run-down of his successes and failures so far, from the unfathomable Plan 9 to the latest Windows 10. We panic but then calm down over the announced end of Crunchbang and discuss the BBC's Domesday Project, the new Raspberry Pi, arcade games, fishcakes and assorted other stuff. Enjoy!

Links and stuff for this episode:

Operating systems:
Haiku
Ghost BSD (Distrowatch  link - www.ghostbsd.org appears down at time of writing is online again)

The BBC's 1986 Domesday Project and here's a video from way back then where the BBC's Nick Ross explains the technology and how to use it.
